Tuna paste bento
Tuna paste is ridiculously easy to prepare and makes a great no cooking bento, cutting the preparation time to less than 20 minutes, including rice cooking time! Now, that's what I would call cooking on the go! You can also use the tuna paste for a great tasting onigiri or sushi.
Step #1: Ingredients
You will need these ingredients:
- 1 cup of rice,
- lettuce leaves,
- grated mozzarella cheese,
- a can of tuna (150g without fluid, must be without oil),
- salt, pepper, herbs, dried onion.
Step #2: Utensils
You will need rice cooker, small bowl and a strainer, and bento box.
Step #3: Cook rice (10 minutes)
Wash and cook rice the way you alway do. You can do other things while it cooks, but fill the bento container with steaming rice when cooked and set aside to cool down.
Step #4: Prepare vegetables (3 minutes)
Clean, dry and shred the lettuce. Fill the bento container with it and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on one half (where other vegetables will be placed).
Clean and dry tomato and cucumber, then slice them. You can ditch cucumber instead. Place them on the mozzarella-sprinkled lettuce, sprinkle with salt and herbs.
Step #5: Prepare tuna paste (5 minutes)
Drain the tuna in a strainer to remove the moisture. You can flake it with a fork to remove stuck fluid. Move to a bowl.
Gradually start adding mayo to achieve consistency you like. I liked mine smooth, so I added around 2-3 spoons for the whole tuna can. When you're happy with the consistency, you can add around 1/4 teaspoon of salt, pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of herbs and dried onion. Mix everything up.
Place the tuna paste on the remaining lettuce space and flatten it with the fork. Sprinkle it with herbs. Your bento is ready!
